ChatGPT has crossed 800 million weekly users, and OpenAI’s valuation has floated near $500bn, according to reporting from The Economist and Financial Times. Enterprises are embedding it into customer service, coding workflows, and internal knowledge systems, while Microsoft continues integrating it across Copilot products serving hundreds of millions of users.

What stands out is how boring this has become. AWS researchers fine-tuned Meta’s older OPT-350M model for structured tool use and tested it on ToolBench. The 350M model achieved a 77.55% success rate, while GPT-4-class models hovered around 26% on the same structured API tasks, according to the published research paper.

What struck me is how quiet this result landed. While everyone debates trillion-parameter roadmaps, a smaller model trained specifically for Thought-Action-Observation loops executed cleaner steps, faster, and cheaper. This doesn’t mean large models are obsolete, but it shows how poorly generalists behave when precision matters.

Costs drop fast when 350M replaces 175B. Latency shrinks. Privacy improves when agents run locally at midnight without sending your data to the cloud.

If smaller models win in execution, the real question is how much of today’s AI spending is just oversized ego?

AI Agents Just Hit 1.5 Million Builders

One and a half million people don’t show up for hype.

Kaggle and Google ran a five-day AI Agents intensive that drew over 1.5 million learners worldwide, with more than 11,000 capstone projects submitted. Content went beyond chatbot demos into planning systems, tool calling, and production failures, with material from Google, Cohere, and NVIDIA.

What stands out is how practical this wave feels. Developers weren’t there for vibes; they were testing architectures after work, late at night, laptop open and Discord buzzing. This is less about chat interfaces and more about orchestration agents calling tools, checking outputs, retrying, logging, evaluating.

If agents stop being experiments and start being defaults, the real question is how many SaaS products quietly disappear behind them?
